Madison Area Shows and Shops

Shows

I participate in one or two shows each year, adding one or two as time an interest permits. The two I expect to do this year are:

Tenney-Lapham Neighborhood Art Walk, always the last Sunday in June, 1-5 PM.

Each summer, 12-15 neighborhood artists open their homes and studios for this annual art walk. I didn't participate in 2011, but do plan to do the 2012 show. Click here for a description of the 2011 show.

The First Unitarian Society Art Fair (November 18, 2012)

Held in the Unitarian Meeting House, 900 University Bay Drive, this show includes 20-30 artists and craftspeople, with a wide range of media. The show offers you a great opportunity to visit the National Landmark Meeting House designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, as well as the spectacular new "green" addition which opened in 2008. For information and exact date, contact Leslie Ross, leslier@fusmadison.org.

The Merrill Springs Holiday Art Show, December 1 & 2, 2012

There is one show that I no longer do, but I highly recommend it: In its 33rd year, the Merrill Springs Art Show, 1009 Merrill Springs Road, features the work of over a dozen local artists and craftspeople. The website for the show is updated once a year. If you click here you'll find either last year's or this year's lineup, along with examples of the work of the artists. The show is held in the beautiful home of weaver and fiber artist Geke DeVries.

Shops

Absolutely Art!

On Madison's east side, please visit Absolutely Art!, at 2322 Atwood Avenue.

I'm proud to have my work available at this gallery. The Gallery has a commitment to make significant contributions to agencies in the community that serve children and families. I hope you'll stop by.

Tuvalu Coffehouse & Gallery

Tuvalu is a fair trade coffee house and gallery, 300 S Main St., Verona (Wisconsin, not Italy!). It is a locally owned, family run business that features the work of local artists and also sells a wide range of fair trade items. They serve 100% fair trade coffees and teas, and "import" their pastries from LaBrioche in Madison. It's one of the most child-friendly coffee houses I've seen, with an area devoted specifically to folks with young children. They also have a commitment to providing quality working conditions for their staff. A selected artist is featured each month, with art openings on the third Thursday evening of the month.

A Room of One's Own Feminist Bookstore,

307 W. Johnson

A fixture in the State Street area since the late 70's or early 80's, Room of One's Own is one of the few local independent booksellers to survive the competition with large chain bookstores. They are closely linked with my own emerging feminist consciousness "back in the day," and I'm delighted that they have agreed to carry my journals.
